Title: Future Travel Opportunities for Wheelchair Users in Automated Vehicles and Aircraft
Speaker: Nichole Orton and Kathleen Klinich
Abstract: This webinar will discuss future travel opportunities for wheelchair users in automated vehicles (AVs) and aircraft. Several research projects have investigated options for independently securing wheelchairs in AVS that involve a Universal Docking Interface Geometry (UDIG), as well as design of occupant protection systems for integrated wheelchair stations. Additional efforts are investigating performance of wheelchairs under the FAA test conditions used to evaluate aircraft seats. Providing an equitable level of safety for wheelchair users in both AVs and aircraft will likely require the use of WC19 wheelchairs, so an overview of WC19 wheelchair features and reimbursement strategies will be provided.
Learning Outcomes: At the end of session, attendees will be able to:
- Participants will understand why WC19 wheelchairs will be required in future AVs and aircraft.
- Participants will learn about potential strategies for docking wheelchairs independently in AVs.
- Participants will receive an overview of the features of WC19 wheelchairs.
Pricing: Free for RESNA members; $45 for non-members

Assistive Technology for Healthy Aging is a project we received a partnership grant for in MN for 2 years. In that time, we saw many people aged 65 and older who benefitted from assistive technology (AT) to stay living in a home of their own. Prior to the grant for 8 years, we had only seen about 5 people who were over 65 for assistive technology. It has become apparent to us now that many of the referrals did not come in as many people assume people over 65 cannot or will not want to learn to use AT. Through our grant work we now do know keys that are important, and that AT is needed, can be learned and is helpful to people as they age.

Title: Dynamic Seating: providing movement for clinical benefit
Speaker: Drew Redepenning
Abstract: Adaptive video gaming is a growing service within the field of assistive technology. There are now many options for individuals living with disabilities to play video games independently. However, for providers interested in offering adaptive gaming services, it is often difficult to know where to start with the adaptive gaming assessment. In this presentation, the adaptive gaming assessment will be broken down to highlight the key questions to ask those seeking adaptive gaming services. Through the presentation, information will be provided on the different controller, console, and game adaptations available to individuals with disabilities.
Learning Outcomes: At the end of session, attendees will be able to:
- After the presentation, participants will be able to describe at least ten different adaptations or adaptive controllers available for individuals with disabilities.
- After the presentation, participants will be able to identify at least three techniques to improve an individual's adaptive gaming set up.
- After the presentation, participants will be able to discuss at least five questions pivotal to the adaptive gaming assessment.
