    How do we assess, trial, and prescribe assistive technologies when an individual’s access method has become limited to the tip of their finger? How does that need shape an individual's access to their meaningful activities and how do they find the best match of AT to keep living a highly active lifestyle? How do we guide an individual through AT options to find balance in their complex needs when we are working towards the outer limits of the functions available in AT products? This presentation aims to discuss high level topics and engage ATPs in the intersection of prescription for CRT/power wheelchairs, alternate drive interfaces, and ancillary technologies including computer access and home environmental controls. We will discuss best practices from research and current models of care for AT across the continuum. The purpose of the session is to acknowledge how prescription of individual AT devices without considering needs for other AT in the user’s sphere can create a gap in care and reduce quality of life overall and how we can work to bridge gaps in prescribing AT within a holistic multidisciplinary scene. Live group discussions based on scripted polling will be welcomed! We want to be able to create a space to discuss success stories as well as challenging cases in order to utilize and catalogue collective wisdom of AT experts and demonstrate effective models for early career ATPs. Case studies will demonstrate how diagnoses such as SMA, Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva, and other neurodegenerative diagnoses can challenge ATPS to work at the highest scope of our certification – and how they can drive improvements in assistive technology.

    Led by a RESNA authorized instructor and current ATP, this training seminar provides a comprehensive review of assistive technology concepts and industry best practices.

    Several types of activities are used throughout the course to reinforce topics and increase knowledge retention. These activities include open ended questions from the instructor to the students, poll questions, quizzes, group activities and discussions. This interactive learning technique is based on sound adult learning theories.

    Online instructor-led courses will meet two times per week in the evening for 2 hours. Course length is 4 weeks.     This session explores the evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) in AAC at Tobii Dynavox, from foundational machine learning applications to emerging generative AI capabilities. Drawing on findings from a recent exploratory study with experienced eye gaze AAC users, we examine the real world benefits, limitations, and impact of AI on communication, including considerations of accuracy, cognitive load, trust, and user control. We highlight how individuals have long been using AI driven tools and emphasize the importance of clearly defined, user centered use cases. The session also provides guidance on when and how to apply AI in AAC ethically and thoughtfully to support authentic, effective communication.
